Talia didn’t feel like a phoenix. She felt like a pigeon with a broken foot.

All her friends had turned their backs on her. Someday, when the time was right, she might flee her city. But it was easier just to stay put and while away the time with her silent fancies.

Who would have wanted to share a journey with her anyway?

No one ever stepped forward. She felt like a tragedy in the making.

Ghosts could never be true friends, she had realized, too caught up in their own lives.

She closed her eyes as the tears burned.

This is my third take on the 100 Story Challenge! Lyrics define these stories, and this piece‘s title was inspired by “The Archer” by Taylor Swift.
