In the Mirror, I See You

A Poem

quests never meant much to me —
and i died at forsaken altars
long before they were made for me

in the realm of unhappy endings,
we stand accused

(but we knew better, didn’t we?)

i didn’t want to live without you,
and you didn’t want to live without me

so let’s run (let’s run, let’s run, let’s run)
where they’ll never be able
to find us

so let’s run (let’s run, let’s run, let’s run)
where they’ll never be able
to chase us

i could cry at the moon again
and weep bitter tears
that taste like sweet poison

(but you wouldn’t care, would you?)

every single day
is another mark
in the ledger

every single day
is a missive
i want to burn

and the greatest heist i could imagine
was stealing your heart
right from under all their noses
