Thank you for joining me here today. I know this isn’t a TED Talk, but I’d still like your undivided attention for a few minutes. I promise it won’t take long.

Really, I should be flattered. My fiction seems to be investing enough to readers who believe this stuff has actually happened. I try not to think too much about it because I don’t want to water down my ideas — and the ensuing stories — in the effort to make the division between reality and fiction crystal clear.

Plus, I get it. Some people just stumble across my stories on Medium with no idea of who I am as a writer or what I’ve written in the past. The flashy-flashy pics and grab-’em-by-the-throat titles I see on here get me too. And more than once I’ve also had to look at someone else’s story and see if the piece is tagged fiction or not…
