I’ll Be Your Queen

A Poem

it’s something like a dream,
captured in all these
empty spaces,
and I feel like
I’ve known you
for years and years.

they can give me the crown,
and I’ll toss it to the crowd
because nobody gets me —
not like you do,
not like you do.

it’s some kind of madness
to think we have
forever
when the clock
keeps ticking
down to oblivion.

they can give me awards,
and I’ll put them in glass cases
where the dust won’t collect —
and there you’ll be at my side,
just like this, just like this.

and they’ll laugh at me,
maybe,
when I hold your hand —
and, oh, it’s no good
because here I go again,
so lost in you.

they can call me a witch
or any word in the book —
but I know I’ll always be
in your mind’s…
