The goddess came to him in a dream.

He just didn’t recognize her.

It happened so long ago he had almost forgotten. Dreams, after all, were not the realm of reality. He didn’t deal well with them — never had.

They were not ground in logic and sense.

But she held her hand out to him and smiled. He wanted to trust that smile.

Even so, he knew better.

He slapped her hand away from him and snarled even in the dream.

“You’re a demon!”

Her smile faltered.

Then she cried, hiding her face.

But he wanted to protect himself more.

This is my third take on the 100 Story Challenge! Lyrics define these stories, and this piece‘s title was inspired by “Hypochondriac” from Eric Nam.
