Icarus Flew Too Close to the Sun (Again)
His was a tale as old as time.
I could tell you a thousand ways about the woes of Icarus. Did you know he wasn’t loved by his father Daedalus? Did you know the man might have constructed the wax wings just to see his son fail in the eyes of the gods?
Parents can be just as messed up as their offspring.
But I will tell you one thing: Icarus may have been a fool in his early days, but he learned from that escapade with the melting wings. The adage may go that people never change, but it’s not that way when it comes to mortals. They are as ever-changing as the sea whispering against the shore under the glow of a full moon.
That’s why the gods love them so much, you know, even after all these centuries.
Icarus kept favor after his downfall. He courted muses to get his hands on the ambrosia of the gods that made them all immortal in the eyes of Zeus. He kept close ties with Hermes, Pandora, and Medusa — those ones who had also each been punished in their own way by the gods. Eurydice and Orpheus were allies of a kind too even though they were still trapped in the games of the underworld.
Games. Those were what they all seemed to be playing these days. Would it last until the end of time? Who could say for certain?
