The girl wasn’t a mermaid. That had been a hallucination.
But Ethan still stared in wonder at her picture, tracing her lips in the photo the private investigator had given him. She was exactly the girl he had seen on that long-ago day when the ocean had nearly taken him into the embrace of its burning bright depths.
“Is that all, sir?” the man asked.
Shaken out of his reverie, Ethan swallowed against the dryness of his throat. “Yes, that’s all I need.”
Now it was just a matter of time.
Waiting.
He had never been good at it.
This is my third take on the 100 Story Challenge! Lyrics define these stories, and this piece‘s title was inspired by “Wild Uncharted Waters” from Lin-Manuel Miranda and performed by Jonah Hauer-King.
