The god Haxion chose Mathilde when she was just a child to be the raven queen.

His fingertips smeared black paint across her forehead. “This mark will fade,” he said, “but the gods will remember. Always.”

Then he had gone away, and she hadn’t known what to remember about him except the soft scent of grass and cedar that had wafted off his skin as if it had been his own personal perfume.

Only years later when she had the feathered crown upon her head did she see him again.

He smiled at her in the way of treasonous things.

This is my third take on the 100 Story Challenge! Lyrics define these stories, and this piece‘s title was inspired by “Bad Romance” from Lady Gaga.
