The queen’s knight stood beside the coffin that would contain her until the night of the Rising Moon. She lay back in a bed of flowers, her blue skin like the glow of a sentinel planet in the sky. Her eyes traced the domed ceiling showing constellations from their galaxy.

“It’s beautiful, isn’t it?” she whispered, and one of the men nodded.

“It is, my queen.”

“Promise you won’t let me rot away inside this casket.”

“We would do no such thing. You know that.”

The glimmer of a smile dusted her lips. “Just checking.”

Then she closed her eyes.

This is my third take on the 100 Story Challenge! Lyrics define these stories, and this piece‘s title was inspired by “BIRDS OF A FEATHER” from Billie Eilish.
