when the dark comes fast
and the tears run free,
I lose sight of my way
so easily, so easily,
as if there’s no room
for a glimmer of hope.

but through the window
comes the silver light
of that solemn moon —
the goddess of the sky —
as if her glow is meant
just for me, just for me.

tomorrow will be a trial,
no matter what prayers I recite,
but at least I have comfort
in knowing the moon hangs low,
close enough almost to touch,
though catching her is impossible.

and so I lie back in bed,
wrapping my blanket ‘round me,
even as my fingers long to trace
the lines of the pale haze out there,
lingering like an ethereal thing
with no care for human eyes.

I could reach and reach,
stretching as far as I could
until my fingers met the glass —
but nothing would bring her near
because she’s the beacon in…
