i look in the mirror
and see a poet
who can’t
be fixed

and

i see someone
who is shattered
in shards
as bright

as multicolored
kaleidoscopes,
ridden through
with never-ending light.

i look in the mirror
and i know
i cannot fix her,
this shade of self

and

i hate that i cannot
be the healing
that she needs —
not right now, at least,

even as much as
how i hope
she’ll find something
somewhere in the daylight.

i look in the mirror
and i know
there is something
to be said of scars —
