Henrietta
A Poem
oh, Henrietta, don’t give me those eyes
that tell me you’ve done me wrong.
oh, Henrietta, don’t sing those old songs
that make me weep each time.
oh, Henrietta, i loved you true —
but you didn’t give a damn about me.
oh, Henrietta, we lied to them all
just to get away with our petty crimes.
oh, Henrietta, you were the sky
while i was the earth cursed to look up.
oh, Henrietta, didn’t i love you well —
or did he make you forget all of that?
oh, Henrietta, don’t give me those lies
when i gave them all to you first.
oh, Henrietta, you’re losing me —
but you don’t even seem to care.
oh, Henrietta, you had me good,
but you never realized what you lost.
oh, Henrietta, don’t smile like that
as if we still have a chance in hell.
oh, Henrietta, i’m losing my mind
each time you bring that smile back.
