Member-only story
Hello, September
A Sonnet
she is a vibrant thing, isn’t she just?
she is all fun in the sun till dusk’s call,
and she is too soon always gone in a gust —
dear Summer, our own June to August doll.
*
but you, September, you’re quite the gem too —
your hair falling orange-red, a delight,
and your eyes steady and ready to view;
your heart has never known humans’ true spite.
*
still, we must hold fast time for Summer’s end-
you know she’ll want a party, fickle thing,
and she’ll so want to be the latest trend —
and then afterward we’ll see what you’ll bring.
*
September, Summer’s your sister, I know,
so let us allow her this one last show.
