Heavenly Bodies
A Poem
cherish the time you have —
that’s what they tell me,
but I’m drowning in clouds,
every one of my own making,
till I feel like free-falling
into a glowing realm
far, far from here.
forever could last a day,
and I would squander it,
weeping over the potential
of so much, so much,
that I could have,
would have,
done.
the stars hang in the balance,
and I’m dreaming
of a world less deceitful —
where gravity wouldn’t hurt
and hourglasses wouldn’t shatter
and people wouldn’t part
for a chance at relief.
in dreams I see shooting stars
that blaze across the sky,
and I would be more brave,
if only I could have one wish
to save me, save you, save us —
because I know we’re ending
long before we can thrive.
