Happystruck

A Poem

glimpse the smile, just a glance,

and you’ll know that joy takes form

even when there’s destruction afloat.

laugh out loud like no one’s looking,

and be your own personal cheerleader

because no one’s going to do it for you.

learn from the happy lines ‘round the mouths

of the people you love and cherish and uphold —

because misery isn’t the only business for a crowd.

tell yourself stories of the better times —

those moments caught in glass jars of memory —

and remember the grayness lasts only so long.

take this happiness and throw it like glitter

in the air to infect and inspire and incite

because maybe glee can someday be a trend too.
