War made the job of a guardian angel quite lucrative.

Who wouldn’t want to earn a place among the court of Heaven just for defending a few vulnerable mortals on the battlefield?

Haziel watched the scenes unfold, the expression on her face serene even as blood and flesh marred the land.

Soon it would be time to collect the souls for a feast in Heaven.

One man prayed to see his family just once more before he died. Only seconds later, he was shot through the chest.

“Fool,” Haziel murmured.

His soul was like fire, burning her fingertips.

How pointless.

This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
