Give Me Back My Sanity
In the future, love’s not so kind to the mind.
“Are you sure about this?” the orderly asked. “I’m not sure she’s up for visitors today.”
“It’ll be fine,” Damon said, running his wristband over the scanner that kept the door locked. “I’ve seen her at her worst. There’s nothing that surprises me anymore.”
The orderly, of course, hesitated as if he were on a precipice and he didn’t know whether to step back or not. Damon could have rolled his eyes. The ward staff always acted as if his credentials were nothing more than ink on paper. After nearly ten years in the field, he would have thought he’d be able to get some damn respect by now.
“Well, just be careful,” the orderly responded, casting a nervous glance at the door. “I heard from one of the others that she’s been biting lately.”
“Understood.” Damon silently dismissed the man, who finally took the hint to be on his way. Then Damon shifted his gaze back to the unlocked door and wondered, however fleetingly, if he would be better off just walking away and going out for a drink. It had been a while since he had warmed a seat at his favorite hotel bar. If he were lucky, there might even be a pretty brunette to flirt with and then —
