Before the world fell to shit — as it always did — Gatsby penned Daisy a letter.

Did you see the way I looked at you? No. I couldn’t look at you. That was the truth of it. Because I cared too much. You noticed, but you didn’t say a thing.

I loved you even more for that.

You think I hate you, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth.

Someday, you’ll understand why things had to be this way.

Someday, you’ll understand that I had to try and save the world.

Even if it meant losing you.

Gone to ashes.

This series is inspired by 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in a city on the brink of dystopian musings. Each story is 100 words, a snapshot of a larger narrative at play.
