got you on my mind again
like clockwork, as always —
you ticking away in a corner
while i can’t help but wonder why

because you were all the noise
filling my brain up with a buzz
while a lazy song played
in the background

no,
what i needed
was space
away

and you were
the antithesis
of it all

got you playing in my thoughts again
as if you never left for grander pastures,
and i’m sitting here in a funk
because i’m just lonely

no,
what i wanted
was some place
to breathe

and you were
the opposite
of calm

and, oh, freedom tastes
like magic on my tongue

and, oh, freedom feels
like summer sun on my skin
