For the Sake of Your Smile

A Poem

Photo by Marcus Silva from Pexels

we said the words,

bound to two,

every vow so sacred

it felt holy.

our mouths met sweetly,

but you laughed,

lips curved and amused,

my heart fluttering.

fingertips brushed against skin,

each touch sparking,

and I wished time

would simply cease.

thought after thought brimmed

as I promised

to love you fully,

truly, deeply, brightly.

all I wanted then

was to see

you smile at me

now and evermore.

your hand found mine

in the dark

and I felt weightless

like shooting stars.

your eyes sang songs,

dancing so lithe,

and I watched you —

so magnificent, mine.

“let’s be together always,”

were your words —

and agreeing was easy

because of you.
