A Poem

enter if you dare
the doorway
of bliss
or madness —
oh, really, who can say?

it started with a smile,
a brush of hands,
or maybe just a word or two —
and suddenly the world
turned on its head.

and you thought
he seemed so sweet
while he pondered
the secrets that lay
behind your painted lips.

and you might have said
a word or two more
just to pass the time
except the hourglass
would never be so kind.

push and pull,
tug and release,
kiss and retreat —
oh, it’s always like this
in this battlefield of love.

he wanted you,
or so he told himself
before he ever knew you —
and you convinced yourself
you might want him too.
