A Poem

hello to the you of yesterday,

the babe with all the benefits,

but little did you know you’d fall

from a place of grace and glamour —

like Alice tumbling down the rabbit hole

for a gander at the great wide Wonderland

goodbye to the you of tomorrow,

the sad sack sorrow tale of sayonara days,

because little did you know you’d trip

into a mud heap of your own making —

the mountain made out of the mole hill

for the anxieties of another glam girl gone

say your prayers and sit tight,

little lost lamb waiting on signs,

since you’ll never know greater heights

than the gutter you found for yourself

in the gas-light gunfire of grizzly fools

and this acid rain world they left behind

keep your fashion sense and your heels —

maybe click them to take you out of wicked Oz —

but you’ll never have those days again

when you laughed with ease and didn’t worry

about bills piling up or supplies dwindling

because that world is long gone —

sad riddance indeed
