A Poem

people will lie to you all the time
if you let them, if you let them, if you let them —
but the truth of it is that we all know
the world’s never been fair to anyone

(except them, over there, you know who they are)

fake friends
abound in leaps and prances
and so many thought they had a winning glance —
but the truth is that we all know them if we look for them

(and, oh, you knew them: you were just too scared to admit it)

at the end of the day,
you fall prey to the uncertainty —
but there are better ways to make a living
than tithing your soul to someone lesser than you

fake friends —
we call them as we see them,
and we know above all else
they’ll never be there through thick and thin

they’ll lie,
they’ll cheat,
they’ll steal —
all in a line, all in a line, all in a line

let the missives fall unread,
they were never yours to triumph above all else —…
