Everyone Needs a Little Starlight

A Poem

oh, have i loved you wrong
to make your star burn out
and fall to ashes on the ground?

oh, did i make the mistake
of believing passion was enough
to make the world spin forevermore?

oh, have you ever thought
that maybe i deserve more
than your haphazard way of loving?

oh, did you take the long way home
just to prove me right in every single way
that we were no longer meant for each other?

oh, have i kissed the bruises
on my skin in this sudden, vain hope
that you’ll know what it’s like to repent?

oh, did i tell too many lies
in the pursuit of earning your love
even though it was all just smoke and mirrors?

oh, have you ever gotten on your knees
and begged a girl not to leave you behind
as those crocodile tears pooled out of your eyes?

oh, did you see the stars tonight
and maybe think of me just once more
as if the memories will help you atone for…
