oh, watch me wander
in and out of people’s lives
as if i’m some kind of magic trick.

let’s see how long it takes
for them to forget all about me.

this is a game i play on the regular
just to see what’s my mark on the world.

but the truth is the validation
does little for my soul
but to pour
some salt into the wounds.

oh, let me kiss you now,
and you’ll see i’m just like a curse
you’d wish would break at midnight.

let’s make a bet and see
what you’ll do when i’m gone.

it’s just for show, for a lark, you see —
because i’m done caring what they think.

but if you’d stay a while —
perhaps i wouldn’t mind,
except please
don’t act as if you really care.

oh, it’s twelve o’clock somewhere,
and maybe you thought you’d be sweet
in playing the prince for this damsel distressed.
