A Poem

Dreaming girls never die —
didn’t you know?

Dreaming girls fly under radars
and take back the night
even as others try to squash
them small and insignificant.

Dreaming girls never die —
that’s their oath, plain as can be.

Dreaming girls don’t cower
under the weight and grind
of this sorry little world —
no, they’re bigger than that.

Dreaming girls never die —
that’s the story we should teach our daughters.

Dreaming girls, oh so lovely,
never wear their hearts
on their open sleeves
even under cover of starlight.

Dreaming girls never die —
don’t you believe?

Dreaming girls, oh, dreaming girls —
we love them till we don’t,
till they become too much a fire
that might consume us all.

But these dreaming girls never die —
no matter what sticks you throw at them.
