oh, i can’t be the one you want —
it’s just not possible, it’s not true —
because these lines are fickle
and my hope is slim.

oh, i can’t be the one you want —
don’t look at me that way, it’s true —
because i’m not learned in any way
and my dreams are dying fast.

don’t you see, don’t you see —
i’m in some kind of neverland
where wendy went mad with longing
for what she couldn’t have.

don’t you see, don’t you see —
i’m in some kind of wonderland
where alice became a queen
but one of broken hearts.

i watched you in your spheres,
and you’re a wonder —
but you’re so much, almost too much,
that i can’t ever hope to break free.

how did you think it would go
when i realized what you were,
what you’d done, what you’d made —
thought i was intense, but here we go?
