you —
words aren’t enough
when there’s the weight
of having to describe you
in all your brilliance

look up at the stars
and tell me they don’t shine
as bright as your smile
that hits me like a hurricane
when nothing else can move me

look into the heart of a fire
and tell me it doesn’t burn
the way this fast love grew,
an inferno captured in a bottle
shared between you and me

look at the forest paths
where hundreds have walked
and say that kind of history
doesn’t make you think
we can make it through

you’ll never know
how exactly I see you —
not even with a mirror —
because your angle is skewed
and your lenses are foggy

we never see ourselves clearly,
no matter what is said by loved ones —
or the actions speaking louder than every word —
because…
