Dear Sam
A Sonnet
Hello, my old friend, where are you today?
I left a message once, did you get it?
I’m sitting at lake’s edge as the trees sway;
you’re still far from here, so I’ll wait a bit.
*
Hi again, just wondering how you’ve been.
I missed your call last week; are you all right?
The thin wisps of clouds look like a cat’s grin;
I so wish you were here to glimpse the sight.
*
It’s been a few weeks, so I worry more.
You’re drifting away like kites with no strings.
You’re becoming a part of my past lore;
you have taken flight elsewhere with new wings.
*
I wrote you letters that I never sent;
I am one place you no longer frequent.
