Darling, Darling You

I wrote the song, and she would sing it.

It came to me as we sat at the piano one morning after breakfast.

“Darling, darling you,” I crooned. “Darling, darling you / Always on my mind / Can’t get enough / Makes me dizzy in the head / Oh, my darling, darling you / Never doubt my love for you.”

Amelia laughed as if I were being silly.

I should have been offended, maybe, but I was still lost in the music.

“You really have a talent.”

“Shouldn’t I? I’ve been a writer for years.”

She shook her head. “Time doesn’t mean anything. But the heart? That’s what matters.”
