Dare Me to Rise
A Poem
passion pits
get me down in the dumps,
and everyone thinks they know me
(thinks they know me in the wandering eye
of a star far cast out of here, out of here, out of here)
i’m in the realm of a happenstance,
wondering where to go from here,
and everyone thinks they know me
(but they never do, they never do, they never do —
in the power of a moment, a moment so cast out of here)
i wanted nothing but a moment —
a gleaming moment, tried for tuning,
hapless and wonderful and beautiful —
but it wasn’t coming (no matter what i did,
no matter how i catered to every sycophant)
i was falling so slowly,
and no one could hope to catch me
i was falling so slowly,
and no one could hope to catch me
and the snow up above
littered the sky like stardust
and the snow up above
littered the sky like stardust
