In the simulation room, Daisy tried to sleep.

Sometimes it was so difficult.

Each day, she sat at a screen and worked through schematics of different battle plans — all at the behest of the robots who were her overseers. But it didn’t matter. Someday she would be free, she hoped.

Gatsby was a faraway thought at such moments.

Only at night, in the dark, did she close her eyes and reminisce.

Oh, love, he might have told her on a night like this. You look so tired. Why don’t you sleep?

But she cannot do it.

Her mind won’t rest.

This series is inspired by 1989 (Taylor’s Version) in a city on the brink of dystopian musings. Each story is 100 words, a snapshot of a larger narrative at play.
