Jayden Morris was supposed to be untouchable — or that was what he wanted everyone to believe. Every interview he gave, I could tell he was uneasy in his own skin, anxiety spiking at the most inopportune moments. In a way, he reminded me of myself, and I often dreamt up ways I might be able to ease the tension off those broad shoulders of his. He looked like he could have done with a good massage too.

But that was neither here nor there. I wouldn’t ever meet an A-list performer like him. His lyrics spoke to me in ways that few could ever do, and I admired him from afar as if he were the silent virtuouso plucking at all my strings.

Life, however, had different plans. I won tickets to his latest concert and even got a free backstage pass to use as I wished. It felt like a fairy godmother had granted me a long-held wish from my deepest heart of hearts.

“You sure it’s not a scam?” my best friend Lacey asked, her nose crinkling as she read the email I had been sent. “This seems too good to be true.”

“It’s a once-in-a-lifetime thing, Lace,” I said. “When am I ever going to get a chance to meet the guy of my dreams?”

“Your dreams,” Lacey murmured. “Well, if you think so, then I’m not one to dissuade…
