100 Faces in 100 Stories — No35

Even the android can tell there’s something different about me. It takes its time in drawing my blood, its motor whirring softly in the background.

The syringe needle is cold.

I close my eyes and breathe out, pretending I feel nothing. It’s a game I play to keep the noise away.

But when it becomes too much — well. Then there are problems.

I can feel my heart race faster. Splashes of red paint my mind’s eye.

The android’s motor grinds to a halt.

The doctor sitting at standby in the room sighs. “Another one, Lana?”

This is typical for me.
