happiness fled
the moment you looked
away

joy disappeared
from my every expression,
restless

how could i have known
that you’d be the one
to take away
my sanity?

i went mad, slowly,
as if i were breaking through
another dimension

i watched you and her
through the window
like i didn’t exist

once upon a time,
i was the center
of your world

once upon a time,
you kissed me
just as fierce

how could i have realized
that someone else
would take my place
beside you?

there was no warning,
no thunder heard on high —
just you and her, shadows entwined

and maybe i should
have known better
than to cry
