Gilda knew the ways of starfire much more than her comrades did. She had witnessed the births of dragons from the volcano’s mouth atop Mount Elvine, and few could match her with knowledge of her people’s histories.

But everyone must be humbled at some point. Gilda learned this when she met humans for the first time. The realms had bled into each other, crashing together, until it became clear both would never be the same.

When she caught a falling star in her hands, the humans stared as if she were magic incarnate.

Then they pointed arrows at her chest.

This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
