the first time i saw you,
i didn’t know what you were,
but now i crave to know more
even though you’re so far away

the first time i saw you,
i thought i was losing my mind
in bursts and flares and spasms,
but you never looked away

the first time i saw you,
i thought you were something called
from a sad, dark dream from long ago —
a fizzling of the senses lost in the sandman’s grasp

the first time i saw you,
you were dressed like a devil,
but i saw past the scheme and wondered
just what you were behind that mask

the first time i saw you,
it was strange to watch you
and wonder in the back of my mind
just what secrets lingered in your own thoughts

the first time i saw you,
there was a haze i’d never felt —
and i’d never felt so seen, it’s true,
before you left to the tune of seconds ticking by
