A Poem

do you ever feel so empty
that even breathing makes you ache
down deep to your very core?

and do you ever cry below
winter skies of white and gray
as you mourn another passing season?

do you ever trace the clouds
and wonder what might happen
if you lifted off and never came back down?

and do you ever stare at the moon
as its face peeks through a daylight sky
and wonder about the mysteries of the universe?

do you ever take for granted
that your feet are gravity-bound
even though you have a fear of falling?

and do you ever ask the wind questions
you’d never pose to anyone else
because you’d be embarrassed?

do you ever tell someone you love them
only to see the gleam go from their eyes
as if you’d just ruined something sacred?

and do you ever think your love is wasted
on people who couldn’t care less
because they’ve living on their own time?
