Awakening the Tides

100 Faces in 100 Stories — No2

--

I was never going to be the one, was I, Mother?

You painted me in gold and set me apart in front of all the gods. You said I would be blessed. But where have I gone wrong? I feel cursed.

Your red hair, freckles, lips — they’re all mine too. I’m your shadow, your puppet.

And when I didn’t fulfill my purpose you cut me loose.

My sister stands now at the edge of the sea, a lovely little smile on her face.

She has no idea what will happen.

She doesn’t realize a monster is waiting in the depths.
