Aphrodite at Dawn

A Poem

Burning gold,
fire lust,
treacherous territory
for mortal men —
but they have a taste
for the whims of a goddess born
and they dare creep forth
just to lay their claim

Sunrise flesh,
melted norms,
holy sanctuary
of a divine woman —
oh, who knows what grows
in her secret gardens afar,
but the lure still lingers
long after sleep entrances

Smokeless inferno,
wordless songs,
hiding places
from an angry god —
make haste, make haste
before all is lost
and keep close indeed
to your clever double-crosses

Glowing skies,
captive circumstances,
paradise found
in a trial by storm —
never doubt her love
because it has saved you
again and again and again
while true beauty never dies
