the snow builds outside
in tufts like pure white confetti
and i’m stuck inside,
lost in thoughts
of summer.

imagine sandy beaches,
water lapping at bare skin,
and sun — cherished sun —
kissing every limb
with warmth.

but most of all
i remember you
and all those games of ours
where we played at love
with real stakes.

green eyes,
mischievous smile,
and a glow on your face
every time you looked at me
as if i were something eternal.

who would have thought
i’d be carrying you
inside the cage of my chest
all these years later
as if i needed you to breathe?

they told me to forget you
as if you were an open, bleeding wound.
