All Those Ghosts In Your Eyes

A Poem

no one said loving was easy,
but maybe we thought leaving
shouldn’t leave such a scar.

you told me once upon a time
how we were just stardust
encased in a human cage.

did you believe it?
or did you say those things
just to make my eyes glimmer?

maybe your smile was a trick,
and maybe I should have known better
than to believe all those charming words.

even now, I look at you across the room
and see those phantoms flicker
in the depths of your dark eyes.

no matter how I tried,
or how much I cried,
you weren’t meant for saving.

and maybe I was lost too,
ready to drown in your pool,
because that’s what I thought love was.

people told me to guard my heart
but I didn’t listen, I didn’t listen,
because I wanted to believe in you.
