All the Seasons of You

A Poem

blue lights drift in and out of focus

and we dance till we’re dizzy in the head

because life’s for living and all this time we’ve got

is drifting down, flurries from another season

/

the blood rushes in currents, blush stain roses,

because you’re the one I chose out of thousands

of scattered stars in this wide cosmos —

my electric hope alive in your eyes

/

those golden times bled from autumn’s rush

to winter’s cold and steady grasp

and with everything I had I wished you’d be

the one to keep me warm at night

/

now I’m friends with the midnight black,

the sky so big it might swallow my heart

that was once yours to keep (as you knew)

but there was only so much I could give

/

the sunrise brims with orange blinks,

and I’m sitting alone on this rooftop —

no longer looking for you as my compass
