we were born
from the earth —
or so they told us —
and who were we
to ever raise a doubt?
you were mine,
I was yours,
all in our tranquil garden

oh, love, why did we let chaos win?

we were sinking
before we had a chance
to swim to greater waters,
and I held onto you
as if you could save me
from all the troubled tides
that sought to drown me,
end me and divide me —

oh, love, why did we run and hide?

we were floating
like we were a dream
born from the mind of a god,
but you never took my hand
as we stood before a myriad
of thrones and powers
as our final judgment
before the verdict passed

oh, love, why did we stray so far?

we were miraculous,
though we did not know it,
because lives began and ended —
yet we could…
