The god of thunder was angry. That was the only reasoning Clive could understand for why their ship was under attack from a sudden storm bearing down. It took everything his crew had to keep the ship staying afloat in the turbulent waters.

The mistress of the sea had promised Clive safe travels in exchange for his crew’s loyalty. Better her, a mere sea witch, than someone fickle like the great Poseidon.

As the sea pummeled the sides of the ship, a prayer slipped out of the captain’s lips.

Then a bolt of lightning hit the mast with a crash.

This is a part of my endeavor to go back to writing tighter fiction with more stringent word counts. It’s just one attempt at the 100 Story Challenge because I thought it would be a good exercise to do to keep my imagination sharp. We’ll see how it goes.
