The mermaid said she knew a sea witch who could help me. I held onto a fragile string of hope that I could escape.
Father wanted me to marry a prince I’d never met.
Mother wished for me to be a bride, but my fate was mine to direct.
Maybe I couldn’t become the captain of my own ship around the Emerald Isle.
But trading my legs for fins? That sounded better than tying myself to a stranger.
I’d live below the sea and chart my own path.
The cost? I’d never fall in love.
It seemed a fair exchange.
