A Poem

there’s the heart of me
you’ll never know,
and i’m left in my corner
to languish once again.

did you say you meant the words?
then show me, show me, show me.

did you say you wanted to be different?
then show me, show me, show me.

i’m lonely in all the wrong ways
while you’re out there courting others —
and i truly don’t understand
why you’re making me feel this way.

do you get a kind of thrill
when i have to beg for your regard?

do you get a satisfaction
from making me wait on your cues?

i tell all my friends i’m fine, just fine —
but you’ve been tearing me up inside
since day one, since day one —
like you’re more villain than friend.

and i can’t shake this feeling
that i’m left on my own
while you’re humming along
to someone else’s tunes of life.
