A Song Only You Can Hear

A Poem

the crossroads of this love
left me bruised, bleeding,
at the feet of your whims
while you decided
if I was worth it.

here I was thinking
that you sang a song
only I could hear —
but I was wrong,
the melody cut.

the golden thread,
severed today,
would haunt me
more than any word
you might have thrown.

and those glimmers
would fade just like
beautiful ghosts
till all I could do
was cry and cry.

the tears collect
in the hourglass,
and the promises
become mirages
of better times.

someday soon —
that’s what I tell myself
as I wonder how long
it will take the nightmares
to go off alone into the dark.
