I have to admit: I can be a Grinch when it comes to Christmas music. I am very particular about what I like, and even my favorite Christmas songs (like “Little Drummer Boy” and “Last Christmas”) don’t always jive with me if the cover doesn’t resonate with me.

Lately, though, I’ve been curious: how do I feel about original Christmas songs — particularly those released after the year 2000? Am I still so picky when it comes to them? I think so because there’s a lot of pressure for these songs to get into the pantheon of classic Christmas music.

I took to my playlists again and sought out to find my favorites of the bunch.

“Christmas Tree Farm” by Taylor Swift

I tried, I really tried, to avoid putting this song on the list because I just know you all are waiting to tag me as “that Taylor Swift girl.”
