A Fear of Falling

A Poem

it starts like this:
that first glance,
just a glimpse,
but enough
to make a heart
race

and then you turn away
and wonder why
it’s so easy
to fall
into
another trap

because you’ve got
a fear of falling, a fear of falling —
and there’s no bittersweetness
quite like this

your heartbeat
becomes a stranger
and betrays you
again and again

but, oh —
those eyes
could light up
entire worlds
if only
they tried

and then you blush,
scarlet chances
turning into
rose promises
as you wonder
what if, what if

because you’ve got
that fear of falling, that fear of falling —
and there’s no other name
for such…
